Tell us who you are?

We are the MGGS Development Trust. The MGGS Development Trust works to raise the profile of Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, connect Alumni, Parents, Staff, Students and other friends of the school, build a sense of community spirit and establish a sense of pride within the school. The MGGS Development Trust office also fundraises to ensure the very best facilities are available for our students, supporting them academically and pastorally.

What is your story?

Buried beneath Maidstone Grammar School for Girls lie a set of World War II tunnels. First-hand accounts tell of lessons learned underground; drawings on the walls illustrate that nothing could prevent the girls from receiving their education, not even air raids or bombs.

MGGS is developing the tunnels into an immersive, educational visitor experience where stories of yesteryear’s adversity will be explored alongside today’s tales of the Covid 19 pandemic, celebrating what both generations have in common: Growth, Resilience, Integrity and Togetherness - to put it simply, GRIT.

Which cause are you raising funds for?

The MGGS Development Trust is raising funds to include a visitor centre in our new building which will house the MGGS GRIT Project and a 1940s-style classroom. This will enable more of our local community to experience our unique Second World War tunnels, a key historical site within the borough of Maidstone. Our new building will also include five Science laboratories, a Music department, and History classrooms.

This new building is a very efficient use of the space on the school site and, with the removal of both T block and N block in due course, will enable the school to create more outdoor facilities for students, without altering the current view of the 1930s building at the front of the school.

The school's motto is 'non sibi sed omnibus'- not for one's self but for all. This expansion of the school will enable MGGS to support the local community by providing additional places for students from this locality, as well as proactively engaging with our community, both young and old, in the development of its visitor centre.

What has made you choose Trophies Plus Medals?

As part of our fundraising, we hosted a quiz night on 16th November 2022, where we invited students, friends, and family of MGGS to put on their thinking caps and have a go at our quiz. Our quiz took a lot of organising, and we really felt like it paid off on the night when we saw everyone enjoying themselves. We decided to approach Trophies Plus Medals to provide our winning prize medals as we believed their medals would be of great quality and a wonderful way to celebrate our winning team.
