The Story Behind The Order - Your One Wish

At Trophies Plus Medals we believe that the key to success is building strong relationships with our customers and community. That is why we make it a priority to get to know the people we serve. Whether it through surveys, our Facebook Community Group, or simply chatting with customers through our customer service team, we are always looking for ways to better understand the needs and wants of those we work with.
By getting to know our customers and community, we are able to not only provide better products and services, but also create a sense of belonging and connection. We value the feedback and insights our customers and community members have to offer, and we are constantly working to improve and grow based on their input.
We are excited to introduce a new series where we will be featuring our valued customers as guests. We believe that behind every order, there is a story worth sharing. Whether it's a special occasion, a business venture, or a personal project, we want to understand the reasons behind our customer's choices and how our products and services have helped them along the way. We are thrilled to get to know our customers on a deeper level and share their stories with you. Join us on this journey as we discover the unique and individual stories behind our customer's orders.
We spoke with the London based charity Your One Wish to learn more about the story behind their recently medal order!
Tell us who you are?
We are Your One Wish – a children’s charity based in London.
Our mission is to secure funding and grant the wishes of underprivileged and vulnerable children and families worldwide. Since our establishment in 2015, our small group of volunteers has dedicated themselves to utilizing 100% of the funds raised to assist those in need.
Among our recent local endeavours, Your One Wish has undertaken numerous projects, including constructing a sensory room in a children’s hospice called "Noah's Ark" in Barnet, funding a two-day camp for autistic children in Ealing, hosting a "celebration of life" party for a seven-year-old girl who had been given 48 hours to live, refurbishing a paediatric treatment room, and stocking the library of a nearby school with a collection of fresh books.
Throughout the pandemic crisis in the UK, Your One Wish provided hands-on assistance, delivering food to NHS workers, supplying hospitals with iPads to enable patients to communicate with their loved ones, and distributing hundreds of laptops and tablets to students across the UK to facilitate their remote learning during lockdown. Additionally, we supplied essentials to food banks and organized the distribution of donated meals and goods from generous businesses to Soup Kitchens and community hubs.
On an international scale, we have supplied medical equipment to The One Heart Therapeutic Centre in Ethiopia, which provides care to severely disabled children, and continue to contribute monthly funds for food, medicine, and expenses. Your One Wish have also delivered crucial supplies to vulnerable children and families in Lebanon and Yemen, as well as procuring oxygen concentrators, and shipping them to India to aid in combating the third wave of Coronavirus.

What’s your story?
Our strategy for fundraising revolves around motivating volunteers to participate in physically demanding challenges such as marathons and mountain treks. Having needed to cancel our planned trip to Everest in 2020 due to the pandemic, we were very keen to get back to it, and it was decided that it was time to take on our biggest ever cycle challenge! At the start of 2023, our team and friends embarked on an arduous 500km cycle journey from Mumbai to Goa. Despite being novice riders and contending with challenging terrain, temperatures exceeding 30°C, amd injuries along the way, the team completed the five-day expedition, cycling for up to 8 hours a day, and raising a huge £100,000!

What cause are you raising funds for?
This challenge is focused on raising funds to support partner charities, One Kind Act and Yuva Unstoppable, in their endeavours to improve the lives of children in India. Yuva Unstoppable is dedicated to upgrading schools in India by providing better sanitation and digital education. Unfortunately, around 85% of toilet facilities for girls in the 1.3 million government schools in India are non-functional or lack privacy and security, while about 60% of rural areas in India remain unconnected digitally. The cost of installing digital classrooms is approximately £3000 each, while upgrading toilet and sanitation facilities and installing wells cost an average of around £11,000.
During our visit to Mumbai, we saw first-hand the living conditions of many impoverished families and the state of the schools they attend. As a result, we have pledged to sponsor the education of students aged 16-18 from these poor, rural areas who otherwise would not have the opportunity to pursue higher education and achieve their goals. With a relatively minimal cost of £1000 per student, this initiative can positively transform the lives of not only the students but also their families and communities.
Our commitment to these long-term projects will include undertaking further fundraising events and challenges over the next three years to ensure that as many students and schools as possible can benefit from our efforts.

What has made you choose Trophies Plus Medals?
