It has finally come home! On 31^st July 2022, England’s women's football team made headlines around the world after the historic win against Germany during the UEFA Women's EURO game. Thousands tuned in to the game and were even able to watch the trophy being personalised with ‘England’ live on television. This marked the women’s first ever major trophy win in history!

England manager Sarina Weigman was thrilled by the win and said ‘it was time to party’ for the Lionesses. The lack of investment in women's sport, sexism from former coaches, and the portrayal of the game have all been at the forefront. Despite the setbacks, the Lionesses have managed to achieve something that Britain desperately needed after many years - a trophy, a moment of pride for the nation, and a hope the tables could finally be turning for women’s sport.  After much hard work and determination, these athletes have finally received the recognition they deserve.

Whilst the event is over, the England team continues to celebrate the match against Germany won thanks to a goal by Chloe Kelly in the 110^th minute of the game. The team have been working hard off the pitch too, travelling across the UK to visit schools, taking part in interviews, and maintaining the momentum of a new perspective on women’s sport. We hope this will inspire more young girls to play football and be rewarded for their personal commitment to the sport!

So, what did the Lionesses win?

The team won individual gold medals, a large amount of collective prize money, and the Champion’s League trophy. The trophy stands at 60cm tall, weighs 10kg and is made from sterling silver, whilst each player took home a medal containing a small amount of gold and estimated to be worth around £13,000. The original trophy remains at the headquarters of UEFA but the team were gifted a replica of the trophy to take home as well as the 40 gold medals.
