Top 9 Favorite Outdoor Field Day Games to Play

One in three children in the UK doesn't get the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day. In school, kids may not take a liking to dress out and playing sport. The exception being outdoor field day games.

These activities are more fair, balanced, and don't require lots of athleticism. Kids love field day at school, and it's a great way to keep them active at home, too. Make your own special field day filled with fun activities.

Here are nine of the best games that kids will want to play.

Top 9 Outdoor Field Day Games

Get your school medals and trophies ready! These games are sure to have kids competing hard and having fun.

1. Egg Relay

Baton relays are a staple, but egg relays are a field day favourite. The object is simple: carry your team's egg using a tablespoon across the finish line first. Eggs that are dropped reset to the last checkpoint, where it is passed onto the next teammate.

2. Frisbee Shoot-Out

Throwing a frisbee is fun, it's catching them that many kids dislike. Frisbee throwing games reward participants who have the magic touch. Use hula-hoops or cones to designate points and play it as a shoot-out.

3. Parachute Games

Playing parachute games is another great team-building activity. You take your standard rainbow parachute, split kids into two teams on each side. Use whiffle balls, badminton birds, or other lightweight objects. The team with the most on the other side of the parachute wins.

4. Sack Race

Potato sacks work best with these games. You jump in the sack and hop to the finish line. Simple, yet hilarious, fun.

Careful when playing this on soggy ground, it's easy to get hurt or lose a tooth.

5. Hula-Hoop Ring Toss

Use as many cones as you can for this game. Either space them out on a large field or use different sized cones for points. Cones should face away from other activities to avoid overthrows hitting others.

6. Cornhole

Use beanbags and a platform with a hole slightly bigger than the width of one. Have kids stand behind a predetermined line. Reward points for a landing near or in the hole.

This works best as a team game to avoid lengthy rounds.

7. Water Balloon Toss

Outdoor field day games should contain at least one water-based activity. Water balloon toss requires a bit of prep, but it's great fun. Fill up enough balloons for everyone to get one turn.

Balloons are thrown to teammates to catch. Each catch gets further apart until the balloon bursts. The longest distance wins.

8. Limbo

This historic game is simple, fun, and provides tunes for everyone as a bonus. Use a broomstick and two short assistants. Above the head, chest-height, waist-height, and chair-height are the default levels.

9. Juggling

For this game, the goal is to get kids to learn how to juggle in 10 minutes. Those who already can juggle will become teachers. Use this game as a way to wind down after kids finish more physical games.
